The Megalodon (Otodus megalodon) was a colossal prehistoric shark that lived approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago during the Miocene and Pliocene epochs. It is believed to have reached lengths of up to 60 feet (18 meters), making it one of the largest predators to have ever existed. With massive jaws capable of exerting an extraordinary bite force, Megalodon fed primarily on whales and large marine animals. Fossil evidence, including enormous teeth, suggests it dominated ancient oceans before its extinction, likely due to climate change and declining prey availability.
